Hardwood Floor Refinishing in Virginia-Highland

Referral service only. We do not perform flooring work.

Sanding versus recoating

Full refinishing sands through the old finish into bare wood, so it can remove deeper wear and change stain color. A screen and recoat only abrades the existing finish and adds a coat on top. They are different processes, and the right one depends on how worn the floor is.

Not every floor can be refinished

Each sanding removes wood. Floors sanded many times, or engineered floors with thin wear layers, may need repair or replacement instead. Wax contamination, pet stains and earlier patches also change the options. A contractor confirms this on site.

Return-to-use timing

When you can walk on the floor, return furniture and put rugs back depends on the finish product, coats and conditions. The contractor gives timing for the specific product they use.

Services

  • Hardwood Floor Refinishing

Full sanding down to bare wood, optional stain, and new protective finish coats. It removes surface wear and many scratches, but it uses up some of the wood that remains above the tongue.

  • Hardwood Floor Repair

Replacing or securing damaged boards, filling gaps and correcting localized problems so the floor can be finished or used normally.

  • Solid Hardwood Installation

Installing new solid wood flooring, either unfinished and finished on site or prefinished from the factory.

  • Engineered Hardwood Installation

Installing engineered flooring: a real wood wear layer bonded over a plywood or composite core, nailed, glued or floated depending on the product.

  • Hardwood Screen and Recoat

Lightly abrading the existing finish and applying a fresh coat. It refreshes worn finish but does not remove deep scratches, stains or change the wood color.

  • Carpet-to-Hardwood Replacement

Removing carpet and either restoring hardwood found underneath or installing new hardwood in its place.

  • Hardwood Floor Extension and Matching

Extending an existing hardwood floor into another room or a renovated area, weaving new boards into old so the floor reads as continuous.
